Central Truth

EVERYTHING from heaven is called to praise the Lord. EVERYTHING from the earth is called to praise the Lord.
ALL people are called to praise the Lord. Children and young people need to learn and know to praise the Lord.

Key Verse | Psalm 148:12–13

Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
(Psalm 148:12-13)

Psalm 148

Praise the Name of the LORD

Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his hosts!

Praise him, sun and moon,
    praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
    and you waters above the heavens!

Let them praise the name of the LORD!
    For he commanded and they were created.
And he established them forever and ever;
    he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. 1 148:6 Or it shall not be transgressed

Praise the LORD from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
    stormy wind fulfilling his word!

Mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars!
10  Beasts and all livestock,
    creeping things and flying birds!

11  Kings of the earth and all peoples,
    princes and all rulers of the earth!
12  Young men and maidens together,
    old men and children!

13  Let them praise the name of the LORD,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his majesty is above earth and heaven.
14  He has raised up a horn for his people,
    praise for all his saints,
    for the people of Israel who are near to him.
Praise the LORD!

Dive Deeper | Psalm 148

So how do children, young men, and young women know to praise the Lord?

I became a Christian late in my teens and grew in my faith in college. Since I did not attend Sunday school as a child, I did not know many of the Bible stories usually taught to children. In my 20's, my church needed leaders for children's classes. I helped because of the need, not because I was qualified. Interestingly, I began to learn the Bible in a new way. Initially, I just looked at the facts of Noah and Moses and Daniel and others. But as I taught more, stories came to life. Characters became real people. I felt the fear, the amazement, and the hope of the people. I imagined the sights, smells, and tastes. I began to see the extent of our God's power and how praiseworthy He truly is. And the children learned God's Word, some met Jesus, and their lives changed. Together, we praised the Lord.

I am convinced God equips us for jobs He asks us to do. He developed in me a passion for children when there was no interest before. Think about this: research studies show over 80% of Christians come to faith between ages 4 and 14 years. These ages are prime for pouring God's Word into their lives. They are IMPORTANT!

Now, I teach knowing young ones come to faith in Jesus, and I fall more deeply in love with God and Jesus as I learn with them. I joyfully teach these truths:

Everything the Bible says is absolutely true.
God loves us even when we sin.
Sin is anything we think, say, or do that breaks God's law.
God had a plan to take care of our sin.
Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for all of man's sin.
Jesus rose to life again and is in heaven with God now.
Faith in Jesus as our substitute is the only way to please God and live forever with Him in heaven.

"Young men and maidens together,
old men and children."
PRAISE THE LORD!

Discussion Questions

1. What are you doing in your life right now just out of obedience to God?

2. When confronted with a need, should feeling unqualified, ill-prepared, or even uninterested limit what you are willing to do for God?

3. This is an unapologetic advertisement for serving in Watermark's children's ministry. Training is available. Will you consider investing in the future of Jesus's family?
