Central Truth
No matter what's going on in your life, the Lord will help you, and He will watch over you.
The Lord will protect you from all harm;
he will protect your life.
(Psalm 121:7)
1
I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
2
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
3
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5
The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7
The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
Wow! We have no reason to worry. The God of the universe, who is everywhere and who sees everything, is watching over us. He's kind of like the Secret Service. They are always guarding the President, and they always see what's going on around him. When he's in a crowd, they walk around with him. When he's in a building, they guard it, and when he's in a car, they protect it. They go wherever the President goes. That's amazing protection, but ours is even better! The Secret Service doesn't know everyone's thoughts and plans, but God does! The Secret Service can't be everywhere at once, but God can! He knows our hearts and gives us the Holy Spirit to protect us from evil.
One of the best things about this passage is that it promises that God will always be available. He never sleeps. He is ALWAYS there watching over us. If you wake up in the middle of the night, you can talk to God. If you need someone to talk to, He's there. If you're nervous, He's there. If you want to celebrate good news with someone, He's there. It's awesome! We're never alone!
God doesn't promise we're not going to have trouble and hardships. Without suffering we would never mature or grow. He does promise that through those hardships we can turn to Him for help and have peace and even joy. God doesn't promise us an easy life, but He promises us guidance and protection.
1. Why do you worry?
2. What keeps you from relying on God's presence?
3. When you are going through hardships, does your life look any different from those who don't have a relationship with Christ?
