Central Truth
Moses, the man of God, knew that he was about to die. As Jacob blessed his 12 sons, so Moses blessed each of the tribes of Israel. Moses had been the leader of Israel for 40+ years—that’s more than 14,610 days (Moses died at the age of 120)!
This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the people of Israel before his death.

and kept your covenant.

they shall put incense before you

Bless, O LORD, his substance,

of those who hate him, that they rise not again.”
12 Of Benjamin he said,
“The beloved of the LORD dwells in safety.

May these rest on the head of Joseph,
on the pate of him who is prince among his brothers.

A firstborn bull

33:17

Gad crouches like a lion;
he tears off arm and scalp.

for there a commander's portion was reserved;
and he came with the heads of the people,
with Israel he executed the justice of the LORD,
and his judgments for Israel.”
22 And of Dan he said,

24 And of Asher he said,
“Most blessed of sons be Asher;
let him be the favorite of his brothers,
and let him dip his foot in oil.
25
Your bars shall be iron and bronze,
and as your days, so shall your strength be.
26
There is none like God, O Jeshurun,
who rides through the heavens to your help,
through the skies in his majesty.

The eternal God is your dwelling place,

Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you,
a people saved by the LORD,
the shield of your help,
and the sword of your triumph!
Your enemies shall come fawning to you,
and you shall tread upon their backs.”
At the end of Deuteronomy 32, God told Moses (the man of God) to prepare for his death. In Deuteronomy 33, Moses gives a final blessing to the tribes of Reuben, Judah, Levi, Benjamin, Joseph (Ephraim/Manasseh), Zebulun, Issachar, Gad, Dan, Naphtali, and Asher. Moses reminds Israel that God's faithful love is the source of all blessings. Before I get too much further, did you notice that one tribe (Simeon) was left out of the blessing (Genesis 49:5-7)?
Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, including Deuteronomy. According to Dr. Thomas Constable, "Deuteronomy is law preached rather than law taught." God's love for the nation of Israel is what motivates Him to bless them.
Who: God + Moses + Israel
What: Moses tells Israel that God is the source of all blessing.
Where: Just outside the land of Canaan (the Promised Land).
When: At the end of Moses' life.
How: Because Moses had a trusting and loving relationship with God, he could share God's love with Israel through a final blessing to the tribes.
Why: Because God is faithful. He is the covenant maker and promise keeper!
Moses was the guy leading around the nation of Israel for 40 years! Well, it wasn't really Moses doing the leading. It was God. God's providence had already planned for Moses to have a role. This role was to hear what God said and to relay that information to God's people.
What blessings have you received? I know that mine are many. I am saved by grace—thank you, Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-10)! I was delivered from death in 2007—a medically-induced coma for almost two weeks (really scary). Several ministries at Watermark have also allowed me to serve others (many blessings). The journey of God's people to the land of promise is similar to our journey. Ours, however, is to a Person and not to a land. Our journey is to Christ. Without Israel making its journey so many years ago, ours would be incomplete.
