Central Truth

Faith is trusting and obeying in action in the face of the unknown, daunting responsibilities, fear, needs, and anxiety. If we trust God with mustard seed-sized faith when we face uncertainties in our life, we will see God move mountains for us!

Key Verse | Hebrews 1:2-4

[B]ut in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son . . . . He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Hebrews 1

The Supremacy of God's Son

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son,
    today I have begotten you”?

Or again,

“I will be to him a father,
    and he shall be to me a son”?

And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God's angels worship him.”

Of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels winds,
    and his ministers a flame of fire.”

But of the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
    the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
    with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

10 And,

“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands;
11  they will perish, but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment,
12  like a robe you will roll them up,
    like a garment they will be changed. 1 1:12 Some manuscripts omit like a garment
But you are the same,
    and your years will have no end.”

13 And to which of the angels has he ever said,

“Sit at my right hand
    until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?

14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

Dive Deeper | Hebrews 1

I was labeled a barren woman, an inadequate mother unable to bear a son, which led to becoming a woman without a husband—lies I believed as culturally acceptable norms for me. God extended His grace toward me when I found mustard seed-sized faith and trusted Him, and I have not looked back since.

I am a redeemed and restored broken woman and single parent who faced uncertainties in life that God walked my daughter and me through, teaching us to believe we are called to an abundant life and eternal perspective. Faith changed my focus, and I began to hope again, focusing now on God's promise and person instead of my life events! He kept His promises to me, when He stood by me as a husband (Isaiah 54:5), a father to my fatherless daughter (Psalm 68:5), and a restorer of time and many other things lost (Joel 2:25). I trust Him more each day. He keeps His Word (Hebrews 6:18) and tells us to ask so He can show us great and mighty things (Jeremiah 33:3).

Repeated lessons during life's heartbreaking trials like domestic violence, separation, divorce, custody battle, and so much more were simply opportunities to exercise my faith and to trust Him (2 Corinthians 1:6). The more I trust and let go, the more He catches me when I am falling. I have seen the truth of Hebrews 1 and the superiority of Jesus Christ played out in my own life. I am obeying and leaning more on Him as God proved in Jeremiah 32:27. Equipped Disciple taught me the discipline of devoting daily and keeping a prayer journal. Marking answered prayers increased my patience and helped me to continue steadfast prayer.

Faith is the dependence on God and being all right with however He chooses to answer our prayers and even when He chooses not to. Truths become convictions based on logical processes when we can sense things around us, but we must challenge ourselves to believe the truth we cannot confirm with our senses (Mark 9:24). Can we believe without seeing, or do we need to see to believe (John 14:1)?
